Dräger Interlock XT
components
The Dräger Interlock XT consists of two main components: the breath-alcohol measuring instrument with the measuring system, which is located in the interior of the vehicle and the control unit, which is usually installed under the dashboard and allows the power supply to the vehicle's starter, or blocked.
use
Long waiting times after the ignition is perceived by a motorist as particularly troublesome. Therefore, special attention was placed on a fast readiness for use in the development of the Dräger Interlock XT. Because the Dräger Interlock XT also (eg in the Scandinavian winter) and at 85°C (eg in direct sunlight) is working properly at -45°C, it was given the name "XT" for "eXtended Temperature".
data Storage
While the use of the vehicle of the Dräger Interlock XT is stored in a data storage recorded all relevant for the application events: date, time, submission or refusal of a breath sample, measured alcohol concentration, motor starts and stops, electrical bypassing of the Interlock and other tampering. The data can be read out and collected in a log.
operation
After the ignition is switched on, the Dräger Interlock XT requests a breath sample. The result of the breath alcohol concentration determines whether the starter of the vehicle is unlocked and the engine can be started.
measurement
The Dräger Interlock XT determines the breath alcohol concentration with an electrochemical sensor system, as it is also used in breath alcohol measuring devices the police. It reacts with high specificity to alcohol, so that other exhaled substances do not affect the measuring result.
manipulation
The use of tools to bypass the Dräger Interlock XT, such as eg an air pump which safely identifies and prevents the engine starting.
Since the general operating permit is valid only for Germany, this unit can be sold only in Germany.
