Retsch planetary ball mill PM 300
with 2 grinding positions, speed ratio 1 : -2

The planetary ball mill PM 300 is a powerful and ergonomic bench-top model with two grinding stations for grinding bowls up to 500 ml. It allows the grinding of up to 2 x 220 ml sample material per batch.
The maximum speed of 800 rpm results in extremely high grinding energy and therefore short process times.

The PM 300 can be found in almost all industries where quality control places the highest demands on purity, speed, fineness and reproducibility. With an energy input that can be 64.4 times the acceleration due to gravity, this mill is ideally suited for research tasks such as mechanochemistry (mechanosynthesis, mechanical alloying and mechanocatalysis) or ultra-fine colloid grinding in the nanometre range.

Fast and powerful

  • Loss-free comminution down to the submicron range
  • Wet grinding enables particle sizes in the nanometre range (<100 nm)
  • Variable speed from 100 to 800 min-1, speed ratio 1:-2
  • Grinding with up to 64.4 x gravitational acceleration
  • Batchwise comminution of max. 2 x 220 ml sample
  • Simultaneous preparation of 4 samples thanks to stackable grinding bowls

Safe and simple operation

  • Simple and safe clamping of the grinding bowls thanks to lockable sun wheel
  • The safety slider prevents the grinder from starting if the grinding bowls are not fixed in place
  • Secure stand on the lab bench thanks to FFCS technology
  • Convenient parameter setting via touch display
  • Automatic grinding chamber ventilation with directed air flow for perfect cooling of the grinding bowls
  • Programmable start time
  • Both grinding bowls are freely accessible
  • Ergonomic clamping unit with smooth surfaces

Settings and options

  • Dry and wet grinding possible
  • Suitable for long-term trials, 99 hours maximum
  • Programmable pauses, e.g. for cooling
  • Automatic calculation of the total process time
  • Reversing the direction of rotation minimises material caking in the grinding bowl
  • Notification of service interval according to utilisation

Reproducibility

  • Reproducible results thanks to speed control
  • Display of the load-dependent speed, independent of the set speed
  • 12 SOPs and 4 cycle programmes can be saved
  • Power failure protection and storage of remaining runtime

Safety first: Automated signalling of the clamping force
RETSCH planetary ball mills are particularly safe to operate. The robust safety slider ensures that the mill can only be started when the grinding bowl is fixed with the clamping device. The automatic locking mechanism ensures that the grinding bowl is correctly and securely seated. This tried and tested mechanical system is less prone to faults than electronic solutions - the user has full access to the sample at all times. If the electronic system fails, for example, it is not possible to unlock the grinding bowls.
Additional safety in the PM 300 is provided by an acoustic signal and an indication on the display when the clamping device has been fixed with the required force of 25 Nm. To make the process easier, RETSCH offers a practical clamping aid. This is particularly helpful when the machine is operated in the upper speed range between 600 and 800 rpm.
