Heating Baths - areas of application
Heating baths can be found in laboratories of all kinds in the fields of chemistry, biology, pharmaceuticals, medicine or the food industry. A heating bath is used in the laboratory to allow a chemical reaction to take place at increased temperature, whereby the heating bath contains a fluid or other media located in a heating bath container, a metal pot or crystallising dish. The liquid used in a heating bath is mainly water, oil polyethylene glycol or other solutions. Depending on their application, the medium and the temperatures at which they operated, laboratory heating baths can roughly be categorised into fluid baths, water baths, laboratory oil baths, glycol baths, laboratory sand baths, air baths, metal baths or laboratory shaking baths.
Water baths are used at temperatures up to 100 °C, while glycol bath is used between 100 °C and 200 °C and a laboratory oil bath also at temperatures above 100 °C. Sand baths are used at higher temperatures. ProfiLab24 provides universal laboratory heating baths that have been developed for precision heating and tempering in the laboratory. Our top-class laboratory heating baths by manufacturers such as IKA, GFL, JULABO, LAUDA, GRANT, Gestigkeit, witeg, Aerne Analytic or BioSan are in use above all in university, private businesses or industrial research laboratories.
Heating Baths - functions
A heating bath is a laboratory heating device whose primary function is to temper/heat liquids or other media and thus to heat immersed vessels such as round bottom flasks, beakers, distillation or Erlenmeyer flasks. For this purpose, the heating bath filler, liquid, water or oil, is heated on a heating plate, usually with a magnetic stirrer, which is used to circulate the tempering liquid and distribute the heat better in the heating bath.
In conventional heating baths, a thermometer is held in the liquid to check the temperature of the heat-transferring liquid. In the heating baths which are offered for continuous operation in the laboratory, the temperature is controlled by automatic adjustment of the desired and actual temperature by means of contact thermometer/sensors and microprocessor-controlled regulators/controllers.
Heating Bath - types
Heating baths are available in various designs, sizes, and types. The range of heating baths offered extends from small heaters, multi-purpose heaters, shaking water baths to water baths with several heating plates. Which model should be used in a laboratory depends mainly on the required temperatures, liquids/media, and the heating bath volume. At ProfiLab24 we currently classify our heating baths into the following heating bath types:
Heating Bath - accessories
Our top-class heating baths are characterised by their high-quality materials and reliability, as well as the possibility of replacing or adding elements. Depending on the heating bath type, manufacturer and application area, you can order a wide range of components and heating bath accessories from us: Test tube inserts, ring sets, insert frames, intermediate shelves, regulators, quartz sand as well as many other parts and accessories for the heating baths we supply.
