BioSan Photometer DEN-600
DEN-600 is a compact, portable, rechargeable, battery-operated photometer.
DEN-600 consists of an optical system with a wavelength of 600 nm, which can be used for the following:
1) OD600 method to estimate the total number of cells,
2) McFarland (McF) turbidity measurement method,
3) Bradford protein assay method to measure protein concentration.
The instrument serves as a cost-effective alternative to a spectrophotometer commonly used for these applications.
Because DEN-600 is battery-powered and compact, it can be conveniently placed in a biosafety cabinet, an anaerobic chamber or quickly moved to another laboratory space. In addition, the vessel holding mechanism allows it to accept standard 10 mm path, round-bottomed, conical vials or falcon tubes, allowing absorbance and turbidity to be measured in Abs, OD or McF units.
USB connectivity and DEN software allow data transfer, data processing and calculation, software calibration for the Bradford protein assay method or custom calibration for a specific applicable vessel and custom turbidity standards.
Common applications are:
- Measurement of cell concentration
- Evaluation of cell growth data
- Evaluation of logarithmic growth phase for induction of microbial cells
- Preparation of competent cells
- Protein quantification method according to Bradford
- Antibiotic susceptibility tests
- Inhibition tests
