Retsch Vibrating Mill MM 500 nano
Convenient grinding down to the nanometre range
The Vibratory Mill MM 500 nano is a compact and versatile benchtop instrument specially designed for rapid dry, wet and cryogenic grinding of up to 2x45 ml sample material. With a maximum frequency of 35 Hz, the mill generates sufficient energy to achieve particle sizes down to the nanometre range.
The robust high-performance drive also makes the mill suitable for long-term grinding up to 99 hours, making it ideal for research and mechanochemistry applications.
The MM 500 is a unique vibrating mill that is a real alternative to the planetary ball mill - with more convenient handling and less heat effects.
Advantages of the sophisticated design
- Easy handling and convenient clamping of the grinding bowls
- Grinding bowls can remain in the clamping for visual inspection or interim sampling
- Ergonomic design with touch display for convenient parameter entry
- 12 Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and 4 programme cycles can be stored with up to 99 repetitions
Flexibility
- Also suitable for fast pulverisation
- Use one large grinding ball in High Impact mode or several smaller balls in High Friction mode
- Use the MM 500 Nano for routine sample preparation applications, nano-grinding or research applications such as mechanochemistry or mechanical alloying.
Grinding down to the nanometre range
- The new grinding bowl design allows full utilisation of the volume, even in wet grinding applications
- Final finenesses <100 nm possible due to powerful comminution at 35 Hz
- Less heat generation, so grinding can take place without cooling pauses.
Thanks to continuous grinding, you receive your nanosample in the shortest possible time.
Functional principle
The grinding balls of the vibrating mill MM 500 nano perform arc-shaped vibrations in a horizontal position. Due to the inertia of the balls, they strike the sample material located on the rounded end faces with high energy, causing it to be comminuted.
Due to the cup movement and the motion sequence of the grinding balls, intensive mixing takes place at the same time. The degree of mixing can be further increased by using several small grinding balls.
Typical sample materials
RETSCH vibrating tube mills are real all-rounders. They homogenise, for example: alloys, animal feed, bones, ceramics, chemical products, coal, coke, drugs, electronic scrap, glass, grain, hair, minerals, oil seeds, ores, paper, plant materials, plastics, sewage sludge, soils, straw, tablets, textiles, fabrics, tobacco, waste samples, wood, wool, etc.
